Our January – March term of art courses is now available to book.

It includes the return of regulars such as life drawing, acrylic painting and pottery, as well as some brand new classes for those looking for something different in the new year. Try your hand at making a willow shopping basket, creating your own 3D character, or experiment with botanical inks in 2023. Click here to browse the entire course term.

Pottery: Hand-Building Tableware
On this course you will learn different hand building techniques to make tableware from clay. The tutor, Annie Lyle, is a professional ceramic artist who specialises in vessels, plates and bowls. On this day you can learn the basics of how to make these functional objects as well as plates, mugs, cups, jars and others that you may want to have a fine art twist.

Freestyle Watercolour
An exciting course exploring mark making, colour, texture and composition. Emily will help you to approach the medium of watercolour in different ways through playful exercises. This will give you a new range of starting points to take your work forward in class and develop future projects.

Willow Oval Shopping Basket
By taking part in this weekend course you will learn how to weave with willow and create your own traditional oval shopping basket with a handle. The tutor will teach you different weaving techniques such as pairing, wailing and French randing. You will use willow to weave a base, upset the sides, border and make a handle, then you will learn how to finish the border and set the handle for your basket.

Design & Make a 3D Character
Taking inspiration from archetypes in mythology, legends and fairy tales, you will explore a range of drawing, collage and puppet making techniques to create your own character. Your final piece will be a 3D textile and mixed media sculpture of your character.

Join artist Deborah Manson for this exciting new one day workshop to learn how to make botanical inks using seasonal, foraged and dried extract plant materials suitable for drawing and printing onto paper and fabric.

Willow Peony Support
This course will teach you how to weave with willow to create an dome shaped support for peonies or similar plants in your garden. The perfect way to support your plants! You will learn how to choose the right size willow for the main frame and weave a rope weave to bind the structure together.
