Phoenix Brighton is pleased to announce the launch of a new international EXCHANGE programme which offers visiting artists a chance to live and work as part of an artist community in Brighton for three months. It also gives artists based at Phoenix the opportunity to participate in residencies through partner organisations such as Both Sides Now.
EXCHANGE is about transferring ideas, sparking conversations and making connections across disciplines and cultures. This enables artists to develop their practice and gain a broader perspective on their work.
Phoenix Brighton is home to a vibrant community of artists who work across a wide range of disciplines, and therefore serves as an ideal environment for hosting short-term artist residencies. There are currently 120 artists who have studio spaces in our building, and this community seeks to foster a collaborative ethos, allowing for the sharing of knowledge, skills and encouragement. There will be plenty of opportunities for professional development and networking, as well as the chance to discuss contemporary arts practice at Phoenix Brighton’s regular SPOTLIGHT event. The artist will also be encouraged to visit other cultural organisations in the region and further afield during their stay. The residency will culminate in an Open Studio event with an opportunity to present new work created during their time at Phoenix Brighton
EXCHANGE is non-prescriptive and process-led. Our visiting artists are afforded the time, space, and freedom to explore their environment and to make work in a new setting.
