Spotlight is a regular series in which Phoenix Studio Artists showcase their work and artistic practice. Join us for an evening of creative discussion and stimulating insights.
This month features artists Clare Nias and Hugh Fox.
Hugh works in photography and moving image and will be sharing some of his recent solo, collaborative and ongoing projects. Hugh's work sits between documentary, photography, fine art and street photography - responding to real spontaneous moments in an intuitive way. His images convey a sense of calm as he seeks out the stillness in a fast-paced world and freezes small narratives and observations. Hugh will be talking about spaces of otherness and how they pervade his work.
This year Clare has been working on a single line of drawing extending over the course of nearly 40 folded pages. She will be talking about the imagery she's using and what has led to it. She looks at how things - manufactured and natural - are supposed to work, the genius complexity of design, and then how they can go wrong and no longer work. Clare works in pencil, ink and watercolour.
The event is free, but you must register your place here.
