The Hidden Aesthetic of Upholstery
Emily Beaumont & Nicki Tarr are resident designer makers at Phoenix. They present Beneath The Surface as a reflection on the often-unseen depths of traditional upholstery. The exhibition invites us to look beyond the fabric and examine the artistry of every day practices, tools and materials. In doing so, it highlights the space where functionality meets artistic form.
From revealing the chair in its deconstructed form, to a playful look at the narrative created by left-behind objects, the exhibition aims to challenge our pre-conceived notions of this age-old craft.
