Monday 5 March
We are delighted to welcome the new lecturer in photography at University of Brighton, Åsa Johannesson to our First Monday event on Monday 5 March.
Come along to this informal gathering and find out the latest Photo Fringe news and how to participate in this year's festival in October.
Åsa Johannesson examines the relationship between photography and the notion of difference – predominantly through the lens of nonconforming gender. Åsa is interested in the way in which the photographic portrait can be explored and presented for us to think about identities beyond representation and other pre-established narratives.
"The artist, who has been exploring non-conformity genders and queer identities for seven years, wants to provoke an emotional response in viewers rather than have them obsess over what or who exactly it is that they're looking at in terms of conventional norms," The Independent.
Åsa studied Photography at the Royal College of Art and is based in London, UK, and in Växjö, Sweden.
Doors open 6.30pm for informal networking.
Speaker from 7.00pm
