Over this 8 week course you will be guided through a number of ways of applying the medium of watercolour to a surface and encouraged to change the way you approach painting. Unlike other types of painting, when applied wet watercolour can be unpredictable, but you can learn some specific techniques that will help you to create simplistic, beautiful and atmospheric pictures. There will be plenty of time to master the techniques and Emily will demonstrate them as you go along.

If you are beginner or just want to become more confident with watercolour then this course will help you enjoy, experiment and have fun with this versatile medium.
* Please note: this course is suitable for returning students, Emily will adapt the content so that you have new exercises to follow.

Red Room, Phoenix Art Space

Students will need to bring: paper (watercolour and cartridge), watercolour paints, an assortment of brushes, masking tape and kitchen roll.

Emily Jolley is a trained painter having gained a degree in Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. She has been running art classes and workshops for many years in Brighton, Portsmouth and Greece. Her work was selected in The Sunday Times watercolour competition to be shown at the Mall, London. Emily’s practice is based at her studio in Phoenix Art Space.
