Portrait Drawing & Painting (Returning Students)

This course will enable participants to extend their experience in drawing and painting portraits. It is suitable for people who have already completed a course with Allan or those with some experience. The course will further develop an understanding of the methods, techniques and ways of looking needed to create a likeness. The course runs for six weeks. The first half will focus on drawing and the second half will focus on painting. For drawing, paper and charcoal will be provided. Please bring your own painting materials for that part of the course, advice can be given earlier in the course.

Allan has exhibited regularly at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He is a 1st prizewinner of the John Player Portrait Awards at the National Portrait Gallery, London (now the BP Portrait Awards). He has held portrait drawing and painting classes at The National Portrait Gallery, London, Glasgow Museums and Galleries, Glasgow School of Art and Wimbledon School of Art. He has completed portrait commissions for numerous institutions including the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and The National Portrait Gallery, London. Allan holds a studio at Phoenix Art Space.
