This course will introduce participants to drawing and painting portraits and is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. You will be given an introduction to the methods, techniques and ways of looking needed to create a likeness.

N.B. Oil painting will not be covered in this course.

Please bring your own paints, brushes, canvas or board, paper will be provided. If you need advice on buying materials in advance of the course please get in touch.

Allan has exhibited regularly at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He is a 1st prizewinner of the John Player Portrait Awards at the National Portrait Gallery, London (now the BP Portrait Awards). He has held portrait drawing and painting classes at The National Portrait Gallery, London, Glasgow Museums and Galleries, Glasgow School of Art and Wimbledon School of Art. He has completed portrait commissions for numerous institutions including the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and The National Portrait Gallery, London. Allan holds a studio at Phoenix Art Space.
