Introduction to Watercolour (AM)
You may have a box of watercolours in your possession but have never used them. This is the time to have a go! This course will give you a brief introduction to watercolour painting. You will be able to explore techniques and experiment with a variety of washes and layers. The tutor will guide you through working with wet on wet and creating layers in your paintings. By learning these techniques you will build confidence and be able to enjoy, experiment and have fun with this versatile medium
This is a session for beginners and those who want to learn more about washes and layering of colours.
Some watercolour paints and paper will be provided at the start of the course but students will need to buy their own later on. You may want to invest in the following:
- Watercolour paints e.g. Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolour student tube set or a box (approx £15)
- Watercolour paper e.g. Cass Art 150-300g / Daler Rowney Aquafine watercolour jumbo pad 300gms (£12 – £20)
- Brushes x 2: one soft round size 8-10, one Daler Rowney Aquafine watercolour artist brush, size 6, 8 or 10, round (£3.50 each)
You will need to bring a sketch book and pencil, masking tape and kitchen towel.
Emily Jolley is a trained painter having gained a degree in Fine Art at the University of Northumbria, Newcastle . She has been running art classes and workshops for many years in Brighton, Portsmouth and Greece. Her work was selected in The Sunday Times watercolour competition to be shown at the Mall, London. Emily’s practice is based at her studio in Phoenix Art Space.
