Drawing on Location

Rachel Cohen
£95

Our Drawing on Location course with Rachel Cohen has been part of the Phoenix Art Space learning programme for a number of years, now it offers a fantastic opportunity for students to continue to learn whilst our building is closed. Preston Park has been chosen for the location of this course because it is very spacious and there are a rich variety of subjects to draw from.

Drawing on Location this spring will be a friendly and informal course with only 5 students. You will have the opportunity to work closely together as a group while observing social distancing guidelines. During the sessions you will draw, talk and look at one another’s drawings (as long as you are happy to share). Rachel, the tutor, will set specific exercises that will be different for each session and relate to the outdoor setting. Exercises will include:

  • Compostition, viewpoint and perspective
  • Light and shadow
  • Colour
  • Mark-making – exploring different drawing materials
  • Looking at trees, buildings, people and animals

General advice and support will be given to everyone at all levels of experience and ability. The aim is to enjoy the process of drawing as a way of engaging with a location.
Please note: sessions may be rescheduled due to bad weather. The tutor will email all students on the Wednesday evening before the session if this is the case.
