Design and Make a 3D Character

Dagmara Rudkin
£120

Taking inspiration from archetypes in mythology, legends and fairy tales, you will explore a range of drawing, collage and puppet making techniques to create your own character. Your final piece will be a 3D textile and mixed media sculpture of your character.

The tutor will introduce you to archetypes in folk/fairy tales and myths and discuss how contemporary artists use imagery as well as materials and processes to illustrate a character in different contexts such as book illustration or performance.

By the end of the course you will have covered the following:

  • Mind mapping and mood board building techniques
  • Developing a drawing of characters and their environment
  • Colour psychology, collage, symbolism of objects in fairy tales, researching and developing costume and accessories
  • Texture and 3D development
  • Surface embellishment techniques and soft sculpture

This informal and fun-filled course is suitable for all levels including beginners who want to unlock their creative potential and experienced visual artists who want to explore new ways of visual story telling. It is also suitable for art teachers who want to bring soft sculpture and character design into their classrooms and story tellers who want to create simple 3D characters.
