Crochet Fundamentals Part 2

Cathy Van Hear
£100*

Crochet Fundamentals Part 2 will provide a framework to build on basic crochet skills and take your crochet work and projects a step further. Leading on from Part 1 where we cover the basics, this course will flesh out your understanding of different crochet techniques and will cover chevron stitches, mesh, puffs, bobbles, and colourwork. We will work on a different stitch each week and will undertake research on modern textile practitioners to contextualise our work within the contemporary craft landscape.

Students will leave this course with a selection of swatches they have created, alongside worksheets and resources created by the teacher. There will be a weekly email after class with links to helpful video resources to support continued practice at home.

This course is suitable for students who have completed Crochet Fundamentals Part 1, or beginners with an understanding of chain stitch, double, and treble crochet.

Cathy Van Hear is a textile artist and crochet specialist based in Brighton. She has 7 years of experience teaching workshops, courses, and classes at venues such as Make Town, Morley College, and the Southbank Centre as well as in collaboration with Brainchild Festival and Bestival.

In her classes, she balances technical skill development and the joy of creating to build both technical and creative confidence in her students. Her studio practice focuses on crochet, but also includes stitch, natural dyeing, quilting, and surface manipulation. Using these traditional craft techniques, she delves into the tapestry of human experience, unravelling threads of identity, belonging, and self-discovery.
