Creative Sketchbooks

Sally Garrett
£120

Sketchbooks can be used as visual diaries and a way of recording your creative experiments that will inspire you to take your ideas further.

During this course we will explore a number of approaches to mark making including drawing with sticks and ink. You will experiment with different printing techniques, and a variety of materials, textures and shapes. A key element will be using collage and layering to build rich surfaces in the pages of your sketchbooks. You will be encouraged to collect found objects, plants, fabrics, photographs and text to use in your processes and inform your work. This course will enable you to develop your surface design, illustration and storytelling skills.

This course is suitable for all levels including beginners.

You can also sign up to a short paper making course with the same tutor and use what you make as an extra medium and technique for your creative sketchbook, more info about this course here.

White Room, Phoenix Art Space

Please bring a sketchbook, shape and size of your choice. You will also have the opportunity to construct simple handmade books.

Sally Garrett is a visual artist and designer. Studying fashion and textile design opened up many possibilities for development in craft, leading to making and selling Kimono to a London boutique in 2002. Becoming a member of The Sussex Guild of Contemporary Designers in 2005 provided opportunities to develop and sell works in a craft context. Further study in 3D design and craft allowed exploration into a range of materials culminating with a 3D MDes in ceramics in 2017. Sally exhibited with Kellie Miller Arts Gallery between 2019-2020. Painting, drawing works on paper and sketchbooks have underpinned her practice.
