All Levels Printmaking
‘This 10 week course introduces three types of monoprinting (direct, subtraction and object methods), and then relief and intaglio techniques using simple and recycled materials such as lino, card and plastic. You will work with water based, non toxic inks, various papers and collage techniques. You will use our printing press but some of the techniques need no specialist equipment so you can continue working with them outside the course.
Suitable for all levels including beginners, no experience or art training is needed. Returning students or others familiar with the techniques are welcome, and may work on their own projects or try more advanced techniques with guidance and advice from the tutor as needed.
Student comment about the tutor: ‘It’s a wonderful class, it has inspired me to start doing my art work at home again. Rachel is an inspiring teacher. We’ve explored so many different techniques, some new to me. I like it that it can be challenging (in a positive way) and that Rachel introduces artists to illustrate the sessions. She also encourages the students to look at each other’s work and to discuss our approaches and feelings. I look forward to being in the studio!’
N.B. No class on 26 October
Artworks are by previous course attendees.
All materials are provided. Students are invited to bring their own images and ideas but the tutor will also provide objects and images to inspire you. Please wear old clothes as printing can be messy.
Rachel studied Art History (BA) at Sussex University and Fine Art (PG Dip) at Brighton. She has an MA in museum and gallery education from the Institute of Education, London. She learned printmaking at a private college in Treviso, Italy and at Kensington and Chelsea Institute in London. Rachel works with wide range of techniques and materials. She makes paintings and sculptures, site-specific installations and performances. Recent projects include residencies in Ireland, Spain, Brazil, Portugal and Denmark, solo exhibitions at Regency Town House and Newhaven Fort and group shows in Brighton, London and Eastbourne.
