Artist of the Month: David Harkins
1 How long have you been at Phoenix?
I have been at the Phoenix for around 15 years.
2. What are you working on at the moment?
I’m currently working on pieces for The Discerning Eye in London Nov 2016 and a joint exhibition with Henrietta Corbett at Bellwood and Wright in Lancaster in March 2017.
3. Which media do you like to use?
I nearly always use acrylic paint on canvas but I also enjoy a bit of mixed media ……. and mono printing…..
4. Which other artists do you admire?
Too many to mention really – the Modern British era I find very appealing – Hilton and Lanyon in particular. Juan Usle, Stephen Chambers, Mary Heliman, Raoul de Keyser, John Noel Smith to name a few.
5. What would you recommend to go see?
Pallant House in Chichester – Simon Martin is an excellent curator and there have been some great shows over the past few years.
6. Is there a piece of work you’re particularly proud of?
I always hope to be proud of my next piece, having learnt something from the last one…….
