Phoenix Art Space
Virtual Open Studios
About the Event
Instead of our annual Open Studios, Phoenix Art Space has commissioned a series of short films about a selection of our studio artists; Sophie Abbott, Steve Fricker, Becky Blair and Emma Johnson. For every week in May we will release a new artist film. An opportunity to hear about the creative practices of these artists, and their experience of working out of a studio at Phoenix Art Space. From 25 – 27 June visitors will be able to enjoy each of these films as they are projected in the Green Room.
For the first week of May we hear from studio artist Becky Blair, who has had a studio at Phoenix Art Space since 2003. Becky works mostly with acrylics as she finds their versatility perfect for layering. She is inspired by her travels abroad but has more recently drawn inspiration from the beautiful coastline of Sussex. Find out more about Becky.
“I hope my artwork brings joy, that it lifts people’s spirits and maybe inspires them to be creative. That’s the effect art has on me. When you get to live with original artwork you become aware of how enriching that experience is. To have something in your home that is made by a person trying to capture a slice of magic, it is very powerful and important.”
