Leap Then Look: Half-Term Art School
About the Event
This October half term, Leap Then Look will run a three-day art school for children aged 7-14 yrs.
Participants will work with experienced professional artists, using exciting and unconventional approaches, including object making, performance, installation, film, and photography. The focus of the workshops will be on working together and inspiring playfulness, inquisitiveness and experimentation, through which children will make friends, learn new skills and engage in multiple processes, creating their own work.
Younger children (7-10 yrs) will take part in lots of exciting group work, be introduced to the work of contemporary artists working across different media, and work together to create collective art works.
Older children (11-14 yrs) will undertake self-initiated projects supported by artists and will be encouraged to try out new approaches and stretch their ideas of what art can be.
Responses from parents of last year’s Leap Then Look summer school:
‘My most sincere thanks for such a wonderful summer school. It was just the kind of enabling, creative, respectful engagement I have always wanted my daughter to have, but not found. You really did such a fantastic job and I hope she can return in the future! I really valued the way that it engaged the young participants as equals and respected their creativity. The outcomes were stunning but the process was also wonderful.’
“You have totally opened my daughter’s mind up to new ways of working and thinking about art. The Summer School has been the antithesis to art lessons at school which can be over controlled and outcome focused. Leap then Look encouraged the children to go in any direction they chose, opening up different avenues and possibilities to them to explore what art can be”
The half term school will be a three-day adventure in contemporary art, where children will discover a range of new art making techniques through a mixture of structured and open-ended daily activities. The focus will be on working together, exploring our ideas practically, using a wide range of inspiring materials and looking at the work and processes of contemporary artists working today. Children will work with different media and technology to create their own images, videos, objects, performances and environments, always working BIG, trying things out in new and unexpected ways and asking questions.
On Thursday 26 October parents/carers and children will have the opportunity to join an online sharing event so that everyone can see images of the art school in action.
Children will need to bring: a packed lunch, snacks, water bottle and clothes they can get messy in.
Booking: please ensure you provide all the required information about your child on checkout including any additional needs or requirements. Your mobile phone number will be used as an emergency contact.
N.B. A 10% sibling discount is available on additional tickets if parents/carers buy one full price ticket at the same time.
