Opportunities - Volunteering
Phoenix Brighton has a small team of volunteers who are integral to the organisation, working together on creating new exhibitions and achieving a high standard of service at events. We offer volunteers the chance to share knowledge and skills between artists and art enthusiasts, and increase their own knowledge of working in the arts sector.
What Phoenix Brighton Volunteers do
Phoenix Brighton offers volunteers a varied and flexible programme of opportunities throughout the year. There are 3 main areas of the organisation that volunteers tend to get involved with.
Exhibitions
Volunteers are crucial in helping us get an exhibition ready. Assisting in the gallery to set up the space, hanging work and doing all those other little bits are the things that volunteers do to help us make our shows look great. This is great experience for artists and those who would like to work in a gallery, to learn how to exhibit work properly, and understand all the work that goes into creating an exhibition.
Volunteers also help with creating interactive activities for visitors to engage with – this is great for individuals who are interested in gallery education, and is a good experience for anyone who wants to look at the work in new ways.
Special Events
Alongside our regular Exhibition Previews, Phoenix Brighton run many special events throughout the year. Volunteers are always invited to help out, in the lead up to, and during the events. Duties range from welcoming visitors to helping on the cafe or bar, invigilation and more.
Regular special events include White Night, Art Junky and Phoenix Brighton Open Studios.
Admin
Throughout the year there are ad-hoc opportunities to gain office and admin experience, giving volunteers the chance to see how things work in an arts organisation.
How to get involved
We don’t require any volunteers to have any specific qualifications, but we would expect applicants to have an active interest in the arts, and a genuine desire to gain experience by working hard and getting stuck in. We also expect applicants to have visited Phoenix Brighton before, and to have an interest in what Phoenix Brighton do and why.
