Designing and Making Contemporary Jewellery (FULL)

with Clara VichiClara-Vichi

[Course Notes]

For students of all abilities who are interested in making their own original contemporary jewellery designs in silver and base metals, with an emphasis on exploration, experimentation and innovation.

Beginners will learn the foundational skills of piercing, filing, soldering and polishing whilst more experienced students can develop and build on their skills with punch making, etching, roller pressing, inlaying and chain making.

Students will need to have a piercing saw with 3/0 blades and a sketchbook. Most standard tools will be available for use during the course however some specialist hand tools may need to be purchased for individual projects. Please note this is not a purpose built jewellery workshop, but a great supportive environment for experimentation. Silver will be available to buy from the tutor or independently as needed.

Clara Vichi is a contemporary jewellery designer and maker, working in mixed metals using calligraphy and typography as her inspiration, and etching as a process. She holds a Masters Degree at the Royal College of Art.
