Drawing Upon the Cityscape (Summer School 2010)

With Rosalind Davis

Develop your drawing and observation skills with specially structured exercises that will refresh and transform your approach to drawing.

We will begin by exploring the fascinating city of Brighton, making quick sketches and taking photographs of the landscape, and gathering textures, colour and atmosphere for inspiration in the classroom. We will experiment with mark-making and experiment with a wide range of materials from pencil to threads, and backgrounds such as plastic, fabric, patterned and textured papers. In the latter part of the week we will develop a series of drawings that incorporate these new techniques.

This is an opportunity to broaden your drawing vocabulary and develop your creativity and confidence. We will focus on the process of thinking and exploring ideas, working alongside a professional artist to learn about contemporary art, design and professional practice.
